Tweeter Waveguide: Smooth Power, Stable Stage, Our Take on Directivity

What you hear on-axis should be what the room hears too.

Loudspeakers don’t just send sound forward; they paint the room with it. The shape of that spray—directivity—decides whether a system feels consistent or moody, whether the second seat hears the same balance as the first. Reference A uses a carefully profiled waveguide around the tweeter to set a target that stays smooth through the upper mid and treble.

“Control the spray, control the story.”

The effect isn’t “more treble.” It’s better treble everywhere. Early reflections in your room carry the same tonal weight as the on-axis sound, so your brain assembles a stable picture. Cymbals shimmer without glare. Stage width feels generous without drifting. That diffuse “edge sparkle” so common in box speakers—the one that shouts “hi-fi!” for five minutes and fatigue for the next fifty—never sets in.

Controlled directivity also makes setup easier. Angle the speakers in and the center image snaps into focus; angle them out and the stage gets wider. Either way, the power response stays composed and the personality remains, well, personable.
